One contestant is allowed to give a prepared speech according to the following rules.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h4>1. Eligibility<\/h4>\n\n\n\n<p>The contestant should be of or above <strong>17 years of age <\/strong>He\/she should be an <strong>undergraduate of the University of Colombo <\/strong>as at 4th July 2020.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Toastmasters are allowed to compete provided they are undergraduates of the University of Colombo.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h4>2. Language<\/h4>\n\n\n\n<p>All speeches must be done in <strong>English <\/strong>(No dialogues or any phrases can be expressed in other languages, i.e. Sinhala, Tamil)<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h4>3. Speech Timings<\/h4>\n\n\n\n<p>Speech should be between <strong>5 to 7 minutes<\/strong>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The speaker\nwill be <strong><em>disqualified <\/em><\/strong>if the speech falls short of 4 minutes 30 seconds\nor it exceeds 7 minutes 30 seconds.<<span style=\"font-size:0px; color:#ff0000;\">\ufeff<a href=\"https:\/\/www.goocialis.cc\/\">\u7280\u5229\u58eb<\/a>\n<\/span>\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>A <strong>green <\/strong>signal\/card will be displayed at\nthe 5th minute and remain\ndisplayed for one minute.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>A <strong>yellow\/amber <\/strong>signal\/card will be\ndisplayed at the 6th minute\nand remain displayed for one minute.<<span style=\"font-size:0px; color:#ff0000;\">\ufeff<a href=\"https:\/\/www.cialisofr.com\/\">\u7280\u5229\u58eb<\/a>\n<\/span>\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>A <strong>red <\/strong>signal\/card will be displayed at\nthe 7th minute and will\nremain on until the conclusion of the speech.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>IMPORTANT:<\/strong><br><strong>The red light will be kept switched on until a speaker finishes his\/her speech. There will be no indication made to the contestant, in the event of disqualification.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>It is the responsibility of the speaker to\nfinish a speech during the allotted time period as indicated above.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h4>4. Selection of topics<\/h4>\n\n\n\n<p>Contestants are free to speak on any topic of his\/her choice apart from\nthose which discriminate a particular section of a community or are purely\npolitically motivated.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Originality\nmust be maintained in all speeches. Any quoted, paraphrased, or referenced\ncontent must be so identified during the speech presentation.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Contestants are allowed to present the same speech content for all\nrounds.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h4>5. Use of Electronic Devices<\/h4>\n\n\n\n<p> The use of electronic devices apart from the device used to log in to the online competition, are prohibited. The use of visual aids including slide projectors and charts will not be permitted. Contestants are allowed to use other handheld props for the speech.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h4>6. Dress Code<\/h4>\n\n\n\n<p>All participants must be dressed in <strong><em>formal attire.<\/em><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<h4>7. Judges\u2019 Decision<\/h4>\n\n\n\n<p>\nIf a situation arises where 2 or more contestants have an equal number \nof points, the Tie-breaking judge will be involved in making the final \ndecision.\n\n<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h4>8. Protests and Disqualifications<\/h4>\n\n\n\n<p>Protests are\nlimited to eligibility and originality and shall only be lodged by voting\njudges and contestants. Any protest shall be lodged with the chief judge and\/or\ncontest chair prior to the announcement of the winner.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Before a\ncontestant can be disqualified on the basis of originality, the contestants\nmust be given an opportunity to respond to the voting judges. The majority of\nthe voting judges must concur in the decision to disqualify.\n\nThe\ncontest chair can disqualify a contestant on the basis of eligibility. Decision\nof the judges will be final.\n\n\n\n<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>NOTE: <\/strong><br>20 contestants will be selected from the preliminaries to compete at the semifinals of ORATION 2020. (Maximum of 7 contestants from each Faculty). <br>No reserves will be selected.&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; <\/p>\n\n\n\n<h4>9. Speech Evaluation Criteria<\/h4>\n\n\n\n<p>Speeches will be evaluated and judged on the basis of the following criteria.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Speech Content (50%)<\/strong><br> &#8211; Speech Development  &#8211; Structure, organization and support material <br> &#8211; Effectiveness                &#8211; Achievement of purpose, interest and reception <br> &#8211; Speech value                &#8211; Ideas, logic and originality of thoughts. <br><strong>Speech Delivery (30%)<\/strong><br> &#8211; Physical                        &#8211; Appearance and body language <br> &#8211; Manner                        &#8211; Directness, assurance and enthusiasm. <br> &#8211; Voice                             &#8211; Flexibility and volume. <br><strong>Language (20%)<\/strong><br> &#8211; Appropriateness        &#8211; To speech purpose and to audience. <br> &#8211; Correctness                 &#8211; Grammar, pronunciation and word selection.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Contest Rules and Regulations &#8211; Preliminaries All rounds in the competition (Preliminary, Semi-Final and Final) shall comprise only of prepared speeches.
