Yes, but No!

The morning alarm struck, and I jumped out of my bed,

In haste as a busy man, to welcome a brand-new year.

Squash, smash and splash, kitchen sounds came voiced,

My darling mom stood icing my birthday cake, in sugar.

“Happy 20th my dear loving young woman”, she wished,

As I sat beside her to taste the left-over batter in greed.

“Mama, should girls stay at home all the time doing chores?”

“Yes, but No! they also can bring the bread home in piles.”

I asked her again to ease my boiling interests, in haze.

“Mama, should girls bow down to men’s words all the time?”

“Yes, but No! they also can navigate a ship to far lands.”

She patted my head and answered in such witty terms.

I asked her once again to demystify my puzzled mind.

“Mama, should girls drop out of schools at earlier ages?”

“Yes, but No! they also can proudly wear graduate cloaks.

Mama made my shy and sighing mind to think beyond.

I asked her for the last time, to quench my dire need.

“Mama, should girls be paid less than hardy boys?”

“Yes, but No! they also can get paid for their speed.”

She fed a loving piece of cake and poured blessings.

I dressed myself in glamours wear and looked proudly,

In the mirror, at my glowing image as a humble queen.

Glistening, glittering and glimmering I stood proudly,

Ready to conquer the world in a womanly way in keen.
